Description

At last something for the Guild fanatics (a group we very much count ourselves in!). Our new ‘Guild-Look’ PAFs offer exactly that, a grown up full sized Humbucker with that all important Guild look and, even more importantly, sound. Whilst we love our LB1 pickups, we’ve always found ourselves hankering for a bigger Guild style dual coil pickup for our guitars and these new offerings from us give a much needed upgraded path for Guild-aholics.

Notes regarding fitting:

Please note, these humbuckers are to all intents and purposes a Gibson sized humbucker with a Guild look and a choice of Gibson style tonal voicing or a Guild Inspired tonal voicing. They are inspired by the original Guild HB1 Pickups and are tonally as close as we can get them to that classic design.

Regarding fitting and installation, they are not a drop in replacement for modern Guild guitars which feature LB1 pickups (see modification guide below) or vintage Guilds with HB1 pickups (which are larger than these). They are however a drop in replacement for any modern Guilds which feature the HB2 pickups. These pickups are a drop in replacement for Dearmond Gold Tone equipped guitars although will require the change to a Gibson style pickup surround/ring that accomodates two rather than three height adjustment screw holes.

The pickup cover dimensions are 69.7mm x 37.8mm so very much follow a Gibson footprint. That being said, they can offer a great upgrade path for your LB1 equipped guitars but will require a small amount of modification to your Guild which will involve enlarging your pickup cavity, equipping your Guild with a Gibson fit pickup surround/ring and potentially modification of your Pickguard to accommodate the new pickup.

These caveats aside, if you want to give your Gibson or traditional Humbucker sized guitar a Guild aesthetic and tone or if you are ready for a small amount of modification to your modern Guild – these pickups will be just the ticket. Available in a choice of 5 fantastic tonal voicings:

  1. Our Radioshop PAF Spec: Alnico IV Magnets in both pickups, 7.8k (B), 7.3k (N). Vintage, hallowed ’58 Gibson Tone
  2. Our Electric Spanish PAF Spec: Alnico IV Bridge at 7.8k, Alnico II Neck at 7.3k. Perfect for Semi and Hollow Body Guitars
  3. Our Radioshop PAF Plus Spec: Alnico IV Magnets in both pickups, 8.1k (B), 7.3k (N). Vintage Tone with extra bite in the bridge position
  4. Vintage Guild HB1 Matched Tone: Alnico IV Magnets in both pickups, 7.4k (B), 7.0k (N). Matched to a 1960s HB1 example, bluesy but with twang and warmth
  5. DeArmond Gold Tone Matched Tone: Alnico V Magnets in both pickups, 8.4k (B), 8.0k (N). A recreation of this well regarded set of pickups – twang, sparkle and bluesy bite. Very versatile indeed!

Delivery By default all of our pickups are shipped with Royal Mail who we find to be excellent both within the UK and Internationally. Their rates enable us to offer prices that are very reasonable for our customers and the timeframe is great for the vast majority of countries. We find that, once despatched, Royal Mail tend to take 1 working day within the UK, 2/3 working days within the EU, 4/5 working days to North America and Worldwide. These are guidelines and of course some countries differ and the level of ‘officiousness’ in customs departments differs massively worldwide. If ordering from a country which is notorious for taking a while to process imported goods (we can think of a few!) please build this into your expectation on the timeframe after despatch. How long will it take to make? As a small pickup maker handmaking within an extremely busy workshop we expect to complete all pickups sets within 16-20 working days (Relic’ed orders 5 days longer). We sometimes work quicker than those timeframes and we’ll always endeavour to finish your pickups as quick as we are able to of course. We can sometimes process a rush order if you have an upcoming, important concert or perhaps if you are buying for a relative’s birthday etc - feel free to message and we’ll always see what we can do.
